The transition is sometimes called the fourth sport in triathlon. Since the clock doesn't stop when we switch from swim to bike or bike to run, we need to make these stops as smooth and efficient as possible. There are many ways to do this, and everyone will have their own individual style, but I will walk you through some basics that will help shave some time off your transition. Wouldn't it be nice to shave two minutes off your race time without expending any…
I've been feeling a bit distracted lately with my training so I've sort of just gone with the flow. I ride when I feel like riding, I run when I feel like running and I swim when I feel like swimming. This has lead to a lot more rest and I've actually gained a couple pounds. So this morning when I went swimming, I wasn't expecting much. Turns out, I've never felt stronger in the water. I could tell it was going to be a good work out as soon as I got in the water. The first lap felt… Continue
It's not as convenient to carry fluid and nutrition on the run (though there are many good products out there to do just that). But if you don't need to carry something specific, then the aid stations will be there to provide fluid and some nutrition like gels and pretzels for the longer races. Even though it seems straight forward to grab a cup of water when you run, you might be surprised at the issues they can cause. Again, you should know what's going to be at the… Continue

Foghat had Slow Ride, Eric Clapton is known as Slowhand, Top Gear's James May is called Captain Slow and me, you can call me Slow Fade. It has been almost two weeks since my last blog and I am down two pounds. I feel like I am slowly fading away. This week I finally took my bike out in the sun and felt that familiar comfort of my road bike. Despite what my south-end was telling me,…

Nicole Feest and Cassie Slade will be running in the 10,000m Wednesday night and Alisha Williams will be running in the 5000m on Friday night. Below is a link so you can watch all of the races.
One thing all triathletes should know is how to take a hand-up from an aid station. Let's start with the bike: For sprint and some olympic races, we can carry enough fluids and fuel with us, but for the longer races, we will often need…

Thanks to information provided by the fine folks at UpaDowna, Backpacker Magazine just ran an article about the "Best Hikes To Beer" from around the nation. It should be in the newest edition, August?
Although we are SUPER stoked that they mention our great local hangouts, they failed however to mention where they got the information from and didn't give UpaDowna a shout-out. At least our little town, hike and hangout is NATIONAL! How cool is that?… Continue

First, let me just apologize for the long delay in providing this race report. There are several reasons for the lack of promptness. The first would be work. As soon as I got back from the race I immediately caught a plane to San Diego to meet with our IT Department. After returning from that trip, I spent the weekend with our small work group doing some team building, white water rafting in very cold weather (a blog to come on that one!)…
