I loved this race.
Yesterday I completed the Salida "Run Through Time" half marathon with several members of the Attack Pack running group. A trail race in March in Salida has the ingredients for a potential disaster, but this year it was a blast. Due to my recent injuries that caused me to drop out of the LA Marathon, I was hesitant to sign up for a race. ESPECIALLY since I had been training for flat and fast, not rolling…

I am married and a mother of a 12 year old boy and a 5 year old girl. I am in the Air Force currently as a Defense Paralegal. I started running just about a little over 2 years ago. My story starts with my friend asking me to do the Rock Canyon Half Marathon in Pueblo. I was very skeptical about having to run that far. I was deployed in 2006-2007 and during that time I did do some short/long distance running. If that makes any sense. I never knew how far I was running, but just did it. …

Of all of the voices inside my head, the hardest one for me to drown out is ego. Ego is a nasty bugger (read that as if I said it in a British accent). Typically, long distance runners are used to ignoring a lot of things that our body is asking of us or writing the script for what we think it wants to hear.
“Well yeah, my legs might literally fall off but I’m fine. Really, I’m fine.”
“It’s okay if I eat this entire bag of malt vinegar chips, my body…

Whoever said running is a cheap sport never:
a.) Participated in many races
b.) Ran year round in seasonal weather
c.) Ran long distances
d.) Had an affinity for Lulu Lemon running crops
e.) All of the above
The correct answer is all of the above.
Sure, you could throw on a pair of ol “sneaks” and hit the road for a mile or three. Running is easy, running is cheap, just throw on what you have and walk out your door, no…

Everyone knows that squats and lunges are great exercises to help you handle the steep and deep. But did you know that preventing injury on the slopes starts in your bedroom? Keep reading to find out the three things I teach my patients to prevent pain on the slopes—or even while doing yard work—these tips will help you prevent pain before it begins.

You have stretched, braced, iced, rolled, rested, strengthened, changed shoes and prayed to the plantar fascia gods but nothing is helping your chronic plantar fasciitis. You are not alone, it occurs in 10% of the population. Don’t worry your problem is correctable but may be related to more than your foot. Plantar fasciitis causes heel pain in active as well as…

Since 2012, my Super Bowl Sunday has involved the Super Half Marathon / Game Day 5k in some way. In 2012 and 2013, I ran the half marathon. Last year, as I was recovering from one hip surgery and soon to find out that I needed another, I volunteered at the Jack Quinn's aid station.
This year was a little more meaning behind it. First, I'm running again after the hip surgeries. Woohoo! Second, it was on Super Bowl Sunday last year that I experienced initial symptoms of optic neuritis,…

The pelvic floor is an important part of human anatomy. Considering how important it is, it always amazes me how infrequently the pelvic floor is discussed. It is responsible for correct bowel and bladder function, it is also responsible for normal sexual function. One could think of the pelvic floor as the structure that holds in and supports your insides. If the…

Hey PPS-nation! How would you like to volunteer to help at the Super Half-Marathon and Game Day 5K JQRC Water Station? We get the half-marathon runners on their way out and on their way back. We are also the "turn around" for the 5K runners. Bottom line we will be busy. Our station is the "tailgate party" so besides Gatorade and water we also have chips, tunes, and a ton of fun. Drop me a note at OPS@JackQuinnsRunners.com

Dear reader, this post is a fable about cross-training. Like all good fables, it involves animals and morals, so let's get started.
When a gazelle walks up to the edge of a pool it stops and stares at the water. The thought process is something like this: Wow, that's deep, and dark, and...ahhhhh I just touched it and it's super cold! The pool is already full of splashy fish who don't even notice that 82 degrees is sort of bone-chilling. The gazelle is so obviously out of…
