So you spent six to twelve months training for an epic event or race that you challenged yourself to participate in this summer.  After the pain subsides, and the post race blues clear you start to think and plan for next year.  Just don't forget to take a…

Birthday Run on the Aspen Four Pass Loop

Taking a page from Sean O'Day's 36 mile birthday run from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek, I wanted to commemorate the anniversary of my first day on earth with a similar monumental undertaking. Fortunately, being born at the tail end of September offers a literal lifetime of opportunities to celebrate during the spectacular changing of the guards as summer gives way to fall. A…

Incline Double.

Today I decided to do the incline. . .twice. I have often told close friends and family that I could do it no problem. I felt like I could push the first one and just relax on the second one and finish without dying. Sometimes things go exactly as planned. Today was not exactly one of those times. I got started wearing nothing but my minimus shoes (no socks), short orange shorts, and Garmin Forerunner 305. I paced myself pretty good jogging some easier parts and finished my first ascent of the… Continue

New mom tackles more than just a baby and a diaper

Jaclyn writes:

Before I was ever thinking about having a baby, I remember working as a personal trainer for many women that came to me with one concern, baby weight.  After having a baby, up to five years prior, their weight had ballooned out of control and they had finally taken the time to reign in their health.  While this pattern is the product of many social issues revolving around pregnancy, I was determined to avoid this struggle.  Keeping weight off and staying healthy, are… Continue

Red Rock Relay Recap

It's 2011 and that means Relay #4 with the "not professional" relay team Girls Heart Rockets. This year I joined the rocket loving girls for the Red Rock Relay in Utah and as usual had a blast! Here's a recap (as best I can remember with the lack of sleep) of my adventure.…

First marathon a little freaky, a lot of fun

By Vanessa Warren

As I walked through the American Discovery Trail Expo, I noticed a table with various stickers, including one that read, “Marathon Freak.” I laughed to myself knowing this sticker did NOT describe me, but rather should have read, “Freak Marathon,” which is what I was…

I recently worked with an avid cyclist that has ridden in the Copper triangle bike ride the past couple of years and has had some trouble with cramping up on the climb up Vail Pass.  After talking to him and getting some background information we started to look past the obvious dehydration cause of his cramping and on to other possible causes.  Other than dehydration cramps…

Elevation Athletics Weekly Training Blog

With two kids starting school, my wife starting a new job, cross country practice, soccer practice, and trying to work a little myself it has been a crazy week.  One thing that has been bothering me all week is the amount of trash on the Incline.  It has been about four weeks since I went up the Incline, with tapering for the Peak races and recovering, and I could not believe…
