Grand Prix long series champs cruise at Pumpkin Races

Winning tastes sweet whether it is your 11th time, like men’s Grand Prix of Running Long Series winner Gerald Romero or first-time women’s overall champion Brianne Pierson.

“It’s exciting,” said Pierson, 33, who had won her age group in years past but never the overall title. “I won at the Sailin’ Shoes and ran a fast Top 10 so I knew I was in good shape coming in. I ran a tough half-marathon last weekend but I PR’ed this course so I am real happy with how I ran.”

Pierson’s…

Two Wheels, All Kinds of Racers

It has been so much fun racing in the Sand Creek Sports Jersey and sharing my stories about preparing for and racing the Ascent Cycling Series. It was also a honor to be chosen as a member of the Sand Creek - Pikes Peak Sports team. Cameron and I both took the series and he pretty much demolished every race he entered, including the finale at Palmer Park. I had to skip that last Sand Creek race - the ProCycling challenge. The mind was willing but I needed the day off.

Cameron has…

Cam Chambers: Sand Creek Sports creating the 'best' mountain bikers

By Cam Chambers

This year I had the honor of being a part of the inaugural PikesPeakSports.us Sand Creek Cycling Team. Along with my teammate Tracy Thelen – I participated in the full season of the Ascent Cycling Series under the

direction of Andy Bohlmann and Sand Creek Sports.

Throughout the season I blogged often about the significance…

4 Must-Try Sports and Activities for Guys

It's the Bucket List for all men. The "to-do" of every guy, no matter what their age, these are the sports in life that every male should try at least once in their lifetime!

1) Indoor Skydiving

It's the thrill of a lifetime, flying through the air without the fear of falling hundreds of feet to your demise. Granted you will need to have a strong back for this sport, but it will be well worth the sore muscles. At around $100, you can get 5 or 6 flights along with the…

What a year!

While my Pikes Peak Sports team mate Cameron has been on a roll, winning almost everything in sight, it was different end to season for me. I also raced at 24 Colorado Springs this year - my first time for this race. Last year, Nick raced solo single speed and I ran his pit. This year, we stuck together for our Duo Mixed attempt at a Stars and Stripes Jersey. We knew it was…

24 Hour Nationals and 2012 season wrap up

I had been excited about 24 hour Nationals for months. Ever since I made the commitment to race back in the late Spring all of my riding had been with the aim to go as fast as I could around and round the 13 mile lap in Palmer Park. Of course I was motivated to try and win the title on home turf and represent in front of so many friends, family and other supporters. Having…

Seventh-grader schools father to win women's Fall Series opener

Kayli Tabares, 13, was proud of beating her father by seven seconds; even more so because doing so paced her to what will likely be the first of many women’s overall titles in the opening race of the Pikes Peak Road Runners Fall Series.

“I started out fast because I knew I needed to keep pace with him,” the seventh grader at Russell Middle School said, who won in 29 minutes, 10 seconds. “I knew when I reached the creek with him I would be in position.”

“It’s pretty awesome,”…

What to Look for in a Great Running Shoe

One of the most important aspects to running is your shoe. The wrong shoe can wreak havoc on your feet, legs and back, leaving your body achy, sore and can prevent you from running whenever you want to. There are literally hundreds of running shoes to choose from and it can be a little intimidating when shopping for the right shoe. You can spend hundreds of dollars and STILL end up with a shoe that makes running a nightmare. Here are a few things to keep in mind when trying on running shoes…

Pawnee-Buchanan, Pikes, and a Hurricane: The Birthday Blog

I have a pretty spotty memory when it comes to a lot of my childhood experiences. If I try to recall my earliest birthday, all I can come up with are vague clips of Putt-Putt or riding go-carts. And in reality, even those recollections are just memories of me watching home videos years later on what went down years ago.

Fortunately, Sean's Cripple Creek birthday run last year helped…

High Altitude Fueling - Pikes Peak Sports Exclusive!

Do I need to do anything different when riding up to 14,110 feet?

Pikes by Bikes!!! UpaDowna MtnMama takes a trip up the Peak on her bike!

What would you do if you had the opportunity to cycle 19 miles up a paved 14er. Would you do it? What if you're a semi-active, new-to-cycling mom in her 30's...would you still do it?!

Well, I had that opportunity and took it. I straight took that bull by the horns.

Pikes Peak and the City of Colorado Springs are running a pilot program in the month of September which allows cyclists to pedal up and down the mountain.…

Bike Thieves Suck!

It is with a heavy heart that I report the loss of an old friend.

On September 4, between 7:30AM and 4PM, someone entered my house, through the garage, and was able to make off with a laptop computer, a half full (or half empty) bottle of cheap gin, and my beloved fixed gear bike.  Luckily the dog was able to scare the intruder off before they could…

my big, fat road trip wedding

I held out as long as I could, but it was bound to happen sooner or later...

I’ve lived with Katie for the past three years in a great house on the west side, near an endless amount of trails and fine drinking establishments.  She has always signed off on my goofy adventures, often crewing and pacing during races or driving and hiking a…

Oh What a Feeling

Wow! There’s a word that’s almost as overused as awesome. However it succinctly sums up all of my feelings in one, tidy, three-letter word. The Ascent was the exclamation point on one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, i.e. participating in all three Triple Crown runs. I can heartily recommend these three runs to anyone who is seeking a…

Just another fine day on the mountain

The Pikes Peak Ascent is over and another Triple Crown Series is done! This year was quite special and being chosen for the PikesPeakSports.us Triple Crown Runners team was definitely the icing on the cake!

I am not sure how many people have even been reading the blogs, but in a way it does not matter. It has been rewarding for me to write and, again, I thank Tim, Ron,…
