Whatsup? No, not the head nod, how ya doin’ version of 'sup…but the stand-up on a paddle board version! “SUP” is a term that has recently become popular in the outdoor adventure sport world. According to SUP World Magazine, the activity has been around for thousands of years. In the 1940’s, surf instructors in Hawaii would use paddles and stand on their boards to get a better view of the surfers. It…

So the Garden of the Gods 10 mile race is a few days away. When it comes to race day, I always like to think I am prepared, I have been running, doing some cross training and even ran parts of the Garden of the Gods course a few times, but I never truly know if I am prepared until after running a race.
It might not make sense, but once I am…

Whew!! The last few weeks have been quite the whirl-wind for me! I was in Moab and Lake Powell with my sisters, then out with some friends, then two shows at Red Rocks, and then Snowmass with my Ragnar team! I think I have been home 3 of the last 18 days! BUT, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I love this crazy storm I call my life! Sometimes it seems like there is no real middle ground for me though...I either plan every…

Encouraged by my friend, Jaclyn, I registered for the Thelma & Louise Half-Marathon a few months back mostly because I loved the movie, it sounded like a fun race and I’ve never been to Moab, so why not? Somewhere between registering and the actual race, I got a wild idea of trying to qualify for Boston at the Big Cottonwood Marathon in Salt Lake City in September.…

I love to know what makes people willingly get out for this brutal 10 miler. It’s not going to feel good. We know that. It’s not going to give you a 10 mile PR with it’s tough terrain. It’s not going to be an “easy” day for those that plan on showing up for “just” a training day. That being said, why on earth are you running it? I’d love to hear some of your reasons. Others stories inspire me and keep me close to the…

I was super jazzed going into the final weekend preceding the first Triple Crown race, The Garden of the God 10 Mile. Our son, Jack, had a soccer tournament in Denver but I was ready. Ready to run between games and wear my goofy compression socks everywhere…

This week we had our first Mighty Marmot Monday night team run. A few of the current team members and some from the past joined to run a few miles before volunteering for the Achilles International of the Pikes Peak Region.
Achilles is an all inclusive fitness group working together to help promote a healthy active lifestyle for any age and ability. They meet every Monday night at 6:15 pm out front of the Colorado…

The competition was at its finest this Wednesday for the Palmer Park race, with the largest race ever in Andy's 101 events. Huge fields at the Ascent Cycling Series mean one thing - speed. And with the speed comes the pain that only an hour of suffering can dish out. With Kelli E in the mix this time, I knew our race would be fast. Add in a new racers like Liz and anything could happen. But regardless of the outcome, it would hurt.…

How many times have we heard Andy call that out? Like many riders, I have grown with the series. From that first race in 2008 as a Cat 2, hoping to gain some experience but terrified of the expert riders I was racing against to today. I think I crashed every time I took my mountain bike out in those first few years and those first races. It was the perfect introduction to mountain bike racing though - hard and fast but with little…

I got up early this morning and headed out for my training run in the Garden starting with the Incline Club but heading east instead of west. I was planning on running 9:15 miles, a few seconds faster than last week. I had my usual slow start; I just take a while to get warmed up. I was running with someone I had just met who hadn’t run the race, or the course before and he was much younger, and faster. “Good,” I thought, “He’ll…

Hi, my name is Neal and I’m a recovering triathlete. So I thought. 2015 turned into a transitional year for me on the athletic front. I was set to race Ironman Texas a couple of weeks ago but some financial dings made it so Ironman wasn’t in the cards for 2015. I altered my schedule and put some endurance events on my calendar as that’s just a part of what keeps me going. I’ve wanted to do a 100 mile ultramarathon for over 10 years…

I’ve said many times that one of my biggest joys is running with my kids. My two teenagers have decided they really aren’t into the sport anymore, but my youngest, 11-year-old Eric, still loves the challenge and is willing to join me on my running…

Last week I was honored to be selected to join The Mighty Marmots. Who are the Mighty Marmots? We are a group of runners chosen to complete the Triple Crown of Running on PikesPeakSports.us Triple Crown of Running Race Team. It starts with the Garden of the Gods 10 Miler, then The Summer Round-up, and culminates with either the Pikes Peak Ascent or Marathon. This will be my first time running the Triple Crown and my training has started in earnest. …

I’ve have always been an athlete ever since I can remember. Which also means I have been on countless teams. Being on a team means everything to me. It’s not only a family, but it’s also a group of people working together to obtain a common goal. Some of my closest friends are people I met on some of the sports teams I played on.
Growing up I was on the cross-country, basketball, and surf team. But once I tore my ACL playing basketball during my senior year of high school,…

Yes, this is one of THOSE kinds of posts...the sappy, trying to be motivational kind, which is rare for me as my primary means of communication is sarcasm.
My sisters (and our significant others) planned a road trip to Moab and Lake Powell for the holiday weekend. No one else in my family (or my husband) like to run. They legitimately think I'm bat-shit crazy for even entertaining the idea of running up Pikes Peak. To them,…
