I am still super excited that I complete the Pikes Peak Marathon, yesterday! I can honestly say, even up to the point where I was toeing the line, I doubted whether or not I could do it. I kept telling myself, "Just be SMART!!"
I listened to myself and started out with an easy run up Ruxton and onto Barr Trail. I would walk when it got a bit too rocky or a bit too steep. There were several times that I felt a twinge in my right foot/ankle and it would make me a bit nervous. Throughout…

Well...about 13 hours before I start the 62nd running of the Pikes Peak Marathon.
My Goals for tomorrow?!?!?!?!
1. Have fun!
2. Finish!
I am nervous due to battling injury for about 5 months, but excited to run a race that has been on my bucket list, since high school. My mom recently reminded me about the time we volunteered at the top, for the Ascent, because my high school coach would not let me run the race.
Now is my chance! I…

To say I am excited to participate in the Pikes Peak Marathon, next week, would be an understatement! To say I am nervous to participate in the PPM, would be an understatement.
I felt my nerves during my drive to participate in the Woodland Park Mayor's Cup, yesterday. Driving towards the west, seeing Pikes Peak in front of me, flooded me with many emotions. Some of those emotions were excitement and others were of doubt and regret.
It has been a lifelong goal…

When I wrote my last post, I was literally boarding a plane to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We headed to this beautiful part of the world as a graduation present for my step-son, Dylan. As I packed for this trip, I packed workout gear for everyday. The hotel we stayed at had a good gym, including spin bikes. My motivation to workout was high, especially coming off one of my best training weeks, in awhile.
I don't know how many of you pack workout gear and never touch it, but that…

actually wrote this post yesterday and almost submitted it, but chose to sit on it for a day and look at it again today. I don't usually do that, I usually think of something I want to share during a run and then just sit down, write, and then hit submit.
I do not know why I chose to sit on this one. Maybe it was the hope my thoughts about my race would change or maybe it was the sheer vulnerability I put in writing. Truth be told, it was both. My friend Dan Angeles suggested that…

I just registered for the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown Series! The Summer Roundup Trail Run will be on July 9th!
I truly love the challenge of Bear Creek Trails. The views are spectacular and the entire race is on trails. There are some good hills that keep runners honest. If you run smart, you also get some good opportunities to gain ground on the long downhills!
The 3-loop course will weed out the runners that have been doing the work from those that have not. I may be in the…

Over the last few years, I have experienced the loss of many people close to me. From family members to former students. The saddest part is that in my life time I have attended more funerals for young people taken too early. The hardest losses have been the losses of my two grandmas, my grandpa, and my mother-in-law.
My Grandma Cherry passed away almost 3 years ago, at the age of 93. She lived with my family through most of my childhood. She helped my parents care for us, came to all…

How many of you are running this amazing race, in one of the most beautiful parks in the United States of America?
I am, I am! This is one of my favorite running events. I only run my favorite races more than once. The challenge and beauty of the Garden of the Gods 10 miler always brings me back. I ran GOG several times through high school and 3 times after I had my two children. Below are my times, after being a mom.
2010 - 1:29.59
2013 - 1:13.56
2015 -…

What did you do to celebrate National Running Day?
I celebrated the day by going on a run. It was a beautiful morning and I was lucky to enjoy it on a nice, peaceful EASY 3 miles! My daughter has swim practice near Palmer Park, so I ran from her practice into Palmer Park.
My blogs will continue with the theme of "Finding Balance", and I will share my struggles, my triumphs and people that have helped me along the…

I am very honored to be picked for the Mighty Marmot Team! All the team members before me were incredible people and members of the running community! My teammates and I have big shoes to fill.
I have thought hard about what I might share with you all, as I train for the Triple Crown of Running Series. I have chosen to not only share exciting recounts of my mileage, but how I struggle with family, work, life balance, daily. I…
