Pikes Peak Ascent reflection…..I’m typing this blog while the Pikes Peak Marathoner’s are preparing for their tough race and I just literally cannot even imagine turning around yesterday and running DOWN the way they all will today!!!!
I had a great race yesterday I would say. I was shooting to break 4 hours. I would say my biggest stress…

Hitting the August training/running/racing wall. The Ascent is this month and struggling to want to train enough to get myself up the big hill. Last weekend I was in Leadville with Dave, for his 3 day – 100 mile bike race. While he rode I ran. I ran 2 hours each day and I’d say…

Sheer panic overtook me as we drove to the top of Pikes Peak for our Ascent training. It was absolutely irrational and I am not sure where that fear came from. I literally covered my face and sobbed while Dave very safely drove us to the top of Pikes Peak. Needless to say I spent the five mile hike down…

Ouch - Pikes Peak Training – 4th of July 2016 – Barr Camp
A happy 4th of July spent training on the Peak! We started at Memorial Park in Manitou Springs so we could get that extra mile up Ruxton Avenue and avoid…

I am NOT ready for the Pikes Peak Ascent – OMG Dave and I were in Leadville this weekend for some fun to include high altitude training – I guess. Saturday’s run started the way the Leadville 100 trail race did for Dave in 2014 running from town towards Turquoise Lake. I had paced this section for him in 2014 and our friend Susie Howery in 2015. I recounted both of their last…

I’d say the High Drive Challenge is a great way to practice how you’ll feel during the Ascent, as well as the next day when your quads are burning trying to walk down stairs. Oh no, that would be if I signed up for the Marathon. Thank Goodness I did NOT. I’ll leave that to Dave doing the DOUBLE.

I like to run at least 5 days a week and this week has been a mess with MOVING homes. Dave and I did find time on Sunday – or I should say we made time. Dave lives in Mountain Shadows which means Mountains/hills/slopes on the way back no matter what. We ran down to Ute Valley Park which I love and don’t run there enough. There really are some pretty good climbs that are peak-ish I’d say. Great training for the Pikes Peak Ascent which is just months away. There is one climb with a lot…

Day ONE – Pikes Peak Ascent training – How could I forget how brutal this is??
Somehow I got a wild hair and decided I wanted to run the Pikes Peak Ascent again. I mean run/jog/hike/walk/maybe even crawl up the Peak again. The weather finally warranted a trip up the Peak to start Day ONE – Ascent training.
Dave and I started at Memorial Park on a beautiful Colorado morning. As we ran up Manitou Avenue I was feeling pretty pleased with myself. Even when we turned up Ruxton…
