Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

Kelly Calway and Chuck McKenzie captured the top spots in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Sunday in the Garden of the Gods. Calway, who hopes to qualify for the U.S. Olympic marathon trials, said she ran for her grandmother who is battleing cancer. Calway finished the hilly 5K course in 19 minutes, 19 seconds.
McKenzie won in 17:30. He ran for his mother, Connie McKenzie, a two-time breast-cancer survivor who ran and was the first of 592 survivors to finish.
A record 8,036 participants took part in the event, which included a wave of runners and a second for people who wished to walk the distance.
