I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers for training for a 24 hour mtb race.

Hey James, I've only done one 24 hour race and I did it as part of a 4 man team. The race I did was the 24 Hours of Moab. Each lap was about 15 miles or so. We weren't really a competitive team but for training I went on a lot of long rides to really work on my endurance. During the race, after every lap, I would immediately check my bike to make sure it was all ready to go for the next lap. I would then eat and get some rest. Did this after every lap. Worked pretty well.

Hi James, to add on to what Brian mentioned about endurance rides, I'd recommend back to back long rides on the weekend. You'd also want to ride at different times during the day - morning, afternoon, night to get used to that. That wouldn't have to all be on the same day though. But to bump up total riding time, you could do a few hours in the morning and a few hours later that afternoon/evening. You could also do a long ride that started in the afternoon on Saturday, and then start the Sunday long ride first thing in the morning. (Then eat and sleep the rest of Sunday!) :)  Of course if you are doing it solo makes a difference than if you are on a team. And you'll definitely have to have a nutrition plan and test it out during your training rides to make sure it works. Good luck!

Get yourself a good support crew.
Solo or on a team?  I've raced solo 6 times but don't have experience with doing a 24 hour on a team.
I want to do it solo. Its one of those bucket list things.

James, I attached a couple of articles that were from Peak Region Cyclist. It will hopefully get you started.

Where else can you ask a question about 24 hour racing and get a reply by the 24 hour national champ? So cool.

This is awesome!! Thanks to all. Colorado Springs does not suck.
