Trying to get my training back on track.

Somewhere along the line, this summer I got off track. Maybe it was the mid summer cold I had or maybe it was the emergency trip to Alabama to visit my father-in-law who was having medical problems. Not sure when but my training went South and so did my motivation.

I've been trying to get back on track lately and I'm off to a pretty good start this week.

Monday: Early morning interval ride on the trainer. Later that evening I went for a 4 mile run with my daughter. She's getting back into running shape for track this fall.

Tuesday: Went for a swim in the evening at the neighborhood pool. Not any kind of huge yardage but at least I was back in the pool.

Wednesday: Some hill repeats up 26th St. and Gold Camp Rd. on the road bike at lunch. This evening I ran in Garden of the Gods for about 45 min with my daughter again.

The plan for the rest of the week.

Thursday: I'll do my 25 mile loop over in Rockrimmon/Woodmen area in the evening.

Friday: Swim in the AM at Colorado College.

Saturday: Day off, chill with the family, do some work around the house. Grill and drink beer.

Sunday. Long Ride. I'm thinking about going up and riding the Harvest moon Tri bike course. We'll see if I get up there. If not, I may ride up the pass to Divide and back.

Well my plans didn't go so well. Thursday I ended up doing NOTHING. Friday I did manage to get out for that 25 mile road ride and felt pretty good. Saturday I did a big NOTHING again. Sunday I decided to get out on my mountain bike. I've missed that thing. Anyway, rode for a couple hours in Red Rock Canyon and a little up on Section 16 and the Inteman Trail. I've got a run planned for tonight. UGH. What is wrong with me?

Excellent, thank you for asking. I'm in the process of writing my next post to my blog to thank the group. Back to you, Does registering for a race of any kind help keep you motivated and focused?

Hi Ralph, my motivation is all over the place. Some days are good. Others are bad and still others are kinda... meh. No partner. It's just me doing my thing. I've worked out with groups before and have benefited from the group experience but I always end up going back to doing things on my own. How's your training going?

Great start for getting back on track. Do you have a partner to help with accountability?

Definitely looks like you are back on track! When I have issues with motivation I take a few days off and then do a "fun" workout. We've all got race goals, but sometimes it's best just to appreciate the outdoors and enjoy what we are able to do and not worry about time, pace, or effort levels. Often after that the motivation to train springs right back! Have fun out there!
