StarFit Kids, a local 501(c)3 non-profit, was founded in 2009 as a response to the alarming rise in childhood obesity and the decrease in physical activity levels in kids. Lelia Davis, RN, President, and Sabra Zirkle, RD, Vice-President, have created an interactive nutrition and fitness program for children in the community. The mission of StarFit Kids is to promote lifelong healthy eating and everyday fitness habits. StarFit Kids is unique in that it is the only local organization of it’s kind that offers free nutrition and fitness education to elementary age children in a school setting or community group. Because the StarFit Kids curriculum is designed to meet the Colorado Physical Education Standards and the new 2010 school legislation, it is a natural fit in the school or community group setting.
