PikesPeakSports.us webmaster Brian McCarrie has won the Assault on the Peak jersey design contest. McCarrie created a design based around Pikes Peak's famous Devil's Playground.
"The Devil's Playground is an area just off the highway close to the summit on Pikes Peak and is called that because that area has a tendency to attract lightning that appears to dance from rock to rock. So my idea for the jersey was cyclists riding through some very tough and unfriendly terrain as a devil is dancing from rock to rock, taunting them while they climb Pikes Peak."
The Second Annual Assault on the Peak, an epic round-trip cycling event from Manitou Springs to the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak and back, is scheduled for Aug. 28.
Race organizers had this to say about McCarrie's design:"We received several submissions but Brian's design and the story behind it stood out from the rest."
Jerseys will be made by Voler and will cost $70. Assault on the Peak spokesperson Pat McDonough said everyone who orders a jersey by June 19 will receive their jersey at packet pick-up before the Aug. 28 event. Any orders beyond that date will be shipped by mid October and be delivered for an additional $5 shipping charge. Order jerseys and register for the event at Assault on the Peak's bikereg.com account.
