Look at the start of the Winter Series II 4-miler on Saturday, Jan. 28, in Colorado Springs. James Burns, 23, of Colorado Springs, won the short-course race, covering four miles on the Pikes Peak Greeway Trail in 20 minutes, 33 seconds. Burns set a new age-group (20-24) course record, eclipsing the old mark of 20:48 set last year by John Mickowski.
In the women's race, 13-year-old Katie Rainsberger kept her Winter Series streak alive. Rainsberger, the daughter of Lisa Rainsberger, the last U.S. woman to win the Boston Marathon, pulled away from Colorado Women's Masters Champion Rochelle Persson with about half a mile to go.
