Check out the view from the Will Rogers Shrine! Cheyenne Mountain Zoo spokesperson Katie Borremans took some time to tell us about the 2011 Run to the Shrine, a fundraiser for the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The Shrine is perched on the side of Cheyenne Mountain some 1,500 feet above Colorado Springs and serves as the turnaround point for the race, which promises to be one of the most challenging - and fun - running events in Colorado Springs this year. On May 21, runners will have their choice of two distances, 5K or 10K. The 10k run begins at 7:15 a.m. just west of the Broadmoor Hotel. The 5K starts at 8:15 a.m. at the Zoo entrance. Runners will ascend to the Will Rogers Shrine on a challenging course with fantastic views. Race officials have a goal of attracting 1,000 runners this year. Nearly 700 signed up in 2010.
