 19.    Saturday-5/7/16-- Grand Prix of Running- Take 5 in the Garden- 5 mile- 33:17- 6th overall- 5th male overall- 1st place 40-44.    Alexis Wilbert beat us all-   Gotta get her back.  Right hamstring holding up good.  I was within 9 seconds of taking 3rd place overall.    Focusing on training.      Another podium place.    Making a comeback.    If the race would have been gun time, I would have taken second place overall male, 3rd overall, but I have been getting screwed with chip timing for two races now.

22.  Monday- 5/30/16-- Bolder Boulder-- 10k- Boulder, CO--

Although it felt like I was pushing it harder than my time showed- my pacing was about right on to what I am doing my lactate training runs right now so its about right on.   So I am actually about right on pace as I am doing about 6:22 to 6:30 lactate training runs right now and of course my lactates will continue to improve.   Always remember there is a lot of climbing in bolder boulder as seen in mile 2, 3, and 4.    Happy I got my sub 40 club tech t-shirt for breaking 40:00 minutes.  And I will also get an extra award for beating my age as well as my keychain medal for 9th place age division.

*I was the 2012 age division champ for the 40 year old division.

7th overall-- 1st place 40-44-- 1:22:26--  Great race for me while I continue getting my conditioning back-- this was my best half marathon of the year so far-- this was a gentle downhill race with some hills along the way-- I was 2 minutes off my time from last year-- I moved up to 4th place after about mile 5 and held 4th place in the race until the last mile and got passed by two racers but made a late comeback and almost moved back into 6th place behind Roost Teammate Jay Survil.

* hamstrings holding up ok, right hamstring got a little tight, its ok now-- have a sore spot under my left heel.

Rolling hill course.

Note:  We did a different harder course last year;  My age group record was beaten this year;  from last year; I may have held on to it if we had not have done a different course last year.    It was hot and sunny with a little humidity.

36.  Sunday-- 7/31/16-- Blackhawk Half Marathon--  Golden, Co--

4th overall-- 1st place 40-49- 1:42--

*Note-- I was only about 1 second behind 3rd-- I did not know the course-- I could have pushed on the last out and back switch back and I could have had the 3rd place guy and taken 3rd overall-- I still almost got him with my electrifying unstoppable kick in.

COURSE:  This was a trail course starting at 7,800 feet-- and then rolling hill course with several climbs reaching a high point of 8,900 feet.

Beautiful views and an amazing course- first time I have done this race and some good training for Pikes Peak Marathon weekend.

This was probably my best race of the weekend, as I am awesome on these types of courses-- again on tired legs and having done 3 races going into this half marathon in Blackhawk.

37.  Sunday- 8/7/16-- VAIL, CO--  BERRY PICKER- 4.3 MILE UPHILL CLLIMB--

4TH OVERALL-- 2ND 40-49- 44:54

This was a 4.3 mile uphill climb from the base of Vail starting at about 8000+ feet and finishing at 10,250 feet -- within a couple of feet we started going uphill right away-- got teased with a quick 200 feet gentle down hill and then hit with the 14% average grade uphill climb the rest of the way--    I felt very strong climbing and was able to take advantage of the easier grades after hard grades-- so this shows I am getting stronger and my confidence is building.

I picked off a lot of jabronees at the beginning that tried to take off fast-- finally settling into 4th overall-- the first female caught up to me two times as we went back and fourth for a while and then I stayed right behind her because it was hard to pass at times on the narrow single trail in the last mile of the climb--  both the first female and I gained and caught the 3rd place male in the last mile but he opened up the gap on the flat part and I was still stuck behind the first female-- we flattened out for just a bit in the last mile and as soon as we hit the 4 mile mark and got onto a dirt road with a brutal uphill finish-- I sprinted the last .3 mile to destroy the first female and almost nipped the 3rd place male.     It was overall a good performance-- I just got held up a little bit on some of the narrow trail areas where I could have used my speed to close up the gap somewhat, but overall- tough course and a very good performance as the top three guys that beat me were all professional cross country skiers.  And I was gaining on them slowly at the end.

38.  Sunday- 8/14/16-- Springspree 4 mile- Running for the blue--Prospect Lake

2nd overall-- 23:50-- won a starbucks coffee mug, $50 bucks at Colorado Running Co., and $25 bucks at Bass Pro Shops. -  two laps around the lake and another loop along Pikes Peak with a climb up Pikes Peak avenue.

This by far was my best shorter race of the year as I actually utilized my speed that I do have.   I still ran on tired legs from Pikes Peak ascent training and we had done Pikes Peak training for the past two days in a row.   Had done the Crags the previous day and ran to the summit.   My speed has improved with a Craig Young lactate training run this week and hardcore trail and climbing training.   I am the Best Ever !!!!

*NOTE--   The chip timing mat was not working in the race so I don't know if there are any results posted anywhere so here are the top 4 --

    1.     Andy Rinne

    2.     Gerald Romero 23:50

    3.     Patrick Vigil-   me and Patrick had a good battle and I finally caught him in the last mile.

    4.     Travis Tabares.

*First Female was Kayli Tabares !!!

MY FIRST PIKES PEAK MARATHON AND FIRST DOUBLER !!!!

39.  Saturday- 8/20/16- Pikes Peak Ascent--

21st overall-- 20th male overall-- 2:46:31--  4th Master overall-- in a very competitive overall and Master field right behind Tommy Manning who was third Master overall.    Actually ended up having a great duel with the 2nd place female Addie, who I caught and passed after Barr Camp, then she caught up in the final three and we went back and forth up to the top as she caught me again at the 16 golden stairs and in the final stretch and I blew by her in the final switchback to the finish to take her out.

_______________________________________________________________________

40.  Sunday- 8/21/16- Pikes Peak Marathon--

5:43 finish time-- my climb was a 3:06

*  My Story--   I didn't actually know what to expect  but I toed the line on Sunday Morning and took off again for the climb to the top--  felt good and strong--  my toe joints hurt for a while going up to barr camp but pushed on-----  knowing that there was no finish line at the top, I took it conservative but kept up a descent pace because I felt good--   I did good going up and made it to the top in the top 15 still--

I made the decision to have some support crew Randy Tripplet at the top who had a bag for me to change my shoes into something with more cushioning and to put my right ankle brace on which simply just keeps my ankle from turning if I were to land wrong---  Its actually an awesome brace which I got back in my college days at the University of Southern Colorado--- now CSU-Pueblo--  I took off my arm sleeves and kept my gloves on -- I wore these cool socks with a hot girl on them--  had a lot of awesome comments on my socks--   tons of women and guys kept asking me who that girl on my socks were and I had to keep answering " just a hot girl" !!!

A lot of people and friends screamed for me as I started charging back down-- shout out to my running friend Brent Baily who cheered me on and gave me a sip of his coors light on my way down as I passed him--    I got more cheers and whistles than anybody else on that mountain in the race and I was also the coolest and hottest racer as well --- I got all the whistles and comments from the females and all my peeps all the way down !!!!!

Now- I feel that stopping and changing my shoes did slow me down and cost me some momentum and time and let a couple of guys I should have blown away get some time on me even though I was trying to hurry.   That was my first mistake I believe I made in the Marathon was to stop and change my shoes/apparel at the top turn around.

Mistake #2--  I took a really bad fall at about two miles down--  it just happened out of nowhere-- I went down--  I slammed my left shoulder into a rock and truly felt and believed it had popped out of the socket-- I skinned both knees and my left elbow--  I hurt all over--  I was in a daze -- and I just layed there for a moment--  next thing I remember is two racers going up stopped and grabbed my arms and helped me up-- those two guys were awesome and I say thank you to them forever-- I stood there for a moment and asked myself if I could go on or do I call it quits--  " I said screw it lets keep running down"

Now at this point I was starting to get passed by a few racers that finally were catching up to me-- I started off slowly and just wanted to keep going and was being very careful.   My left shoulder hurt very bad and my legs felt like rubber from the fall.

I pushed on down and tried to pick up the pace as I could but being careful--

Mistake #3-- I took too much water-- I had to stop and pull of to the side and empty my bladder-- cost me a couple minutes and a couple more racers passing me-- I pushed on--

Mistake #4-- Mayby not really my fault but I also threw up two times after Barr Camp-- cost me time and places as I had to stop each time- queasy stomach didn't feel good.

Mistake #5-- and lastly I hit the wall at about no name creek due to my fall and probably not enough mileage in training -- almost forgetting that this is still a Marathon and I had just still raced 23  miles and had thrown up all my fluids  and been on my legs for 5 hours--- and had done the Ascent the previous day.     I just didn't feel good anymore and then on top of it the heat of the day back at the bottom was getting to me.   I regrouped and continued running best I could and finally reached the pavement and made my way to the Cog and had a nice finish in with a sprint into the finish catching one guy at the end.

* My highlights of the weekend--   I successfully completed the double-- got 4th Master overall in the Ascent with a 2:46:31-- had a good climb in the Marathon-- I was still in top 20 coming down from the turnaround.   A bad fall started the ball rolling on a tough downhill.   I know I would have placed in the top 5 master awards without hurting on the downhill.

I WAS 10TH OVERALL DOUBLER-- 8TH OVERALL MALE DOUBLER- 3RD PLACE AGE GROUP.

45.  Saturday- 9/10/16-- Imogene Pass Run-- 17.1  miles-- Ouray to Telluride--

21st overall-- 18th male overall-- 2nd Master overall-- 1st place -45-49-- Won the gold medal and a gift card to REI.  This was my first Imogene Pass Run-  I also ran this sick as I was not feeling good during the week after getting back from California/Disneyland-- I had congestion and irritated lungs

Starting at approximately 8, 800 feet in the town of Ouray we completed 10 miles of climbing to 13,100 feet to the top of Imogene pass -- my climb was wonderful -- I picked off jabronees left and right moving up to top 15.  There were very steep climbs especially the last 3 miles and a few gentle downhills with some beautiful waterfalls and cliffs.  The downhill was tough as it was a rocky trail so you had to be careful with footing.  It was hard to run fast on this rocky footing.   After reaching the summit, it was a very steep couple of miles back down until it started leveling off a little bit as we descended back down to Telluride.    I had a pretty good descent going down best I could on steep rocky footing.      I beat all of the females to the top and I had beaten the top master male to the top.  I got passed by the top 3 females back on the downhill and 3 of the males (to include the top Master) caught me back on the downhill.   But I feel good I kicked all their asses going up  This downhill was different than pikes peak, much more steep, difficult, and rocky, hard to move smooth on this type of rocky wagon wheel road.

46.  Saturday-9/17/16-- 2ND ANNUAL-  Hermit Pass Half Marathon--Westcliff, CO

*1st OVERALL CHAMPION--   2 time overall champion (2015 and 2016)--

* Note:  my time was slow this year - 2:22-- as I was sent the long way on the marathon finish so I did an extra 5 miles on a dry dusty dirt road into the finish.    The course starts at 8, 100 feet and gently climbs up a dirt road and then takes a turn onto the pass with a quick gentle downhill and then we climb up a very crude rocky road to the turnaround at mile 6.5 to 10,100 feet and then come back down the same way.   Weather was nice, hot, and sunny.

I got 2nd overall behind Denver Runners Roost Mountain Team member.

Course:  A rolling rocky trail race comparable to Ute Valley Park or Palmer Park.     Very beautiful scenery with waterfalls, many stone stairs, rivers and creeks, and passing by the old Dam ruins from when the Dam broke many years ago and flooded out the area.

52.  Saturday-10/8/16-- Grand Prix of Running-- Final Leg-- The Great Pumpkin 10k--

* 2nd overall male-- 3rd overall-- 38:05 chip time--

* same course as previous years-- good old school fall flat cross country course with a lot of fun winding trails, a new unplanned water obstacle, gravel hard packed trails, and a few small hills.

* The Mine to Mine 9k was originally on my race schedule today, but I needed to complete and support the Grand Prix Series for Runner's Roost and I am now the 2016 Long Series Champion again !      With my time from last year's Mine to Mine 9k  I would have been 3rd overall this year --    I am also in better conditioning right now and stronger than anyone else and I would have given Andy Rinne, who got 2nd at Mine to Mine this year, a run for his money on this course this year  !!!!   I am a 15 time Grand Prix of Racing Champion in the Long Series, I have 2 second place overall finishes.  I have an age group place from 2014 as I substituted another race for the Classic 10k that year as I was out of state working for the summer.    I did not get to complete the series last year as other races conflicted with the series.

* Alexis Wilbert ----  "Your going Down" -- The Most Electrifying man in all of racing is going to take you down next time  !!!!

55.  Sunday-- 10/16/16-- Denver Rock and Roll Half Marathon--- Downtown Denver-- Civic Center Park---  A world class half marathon-- USATF Half Marathon Championship.

I won the 45-49 age division-- 56th overall-- 1:23:38-- Awards to be mailed to me.

*  Again, I was electrifying in my Brooks Runners Roost uniform-- blue Brooks glasses and blue hair coloring making me the coolest racer on the course.    I had a great first half of the race as I got out hard again hitting mile 1 at approx. 5:40-- my 5k in approx. 19:00-- 10k in approx. 38:00--   my ten mile was in about 1:04.   My legs felt heavy and fatigued with about 5k to go.  Course started at Civic Center Park and winded through downtown for the first 6-7 miles and then headed East uphill to the City Park and then winded back to the State Capital and finished on a nice downhill to Civic Center Park.    And I gave a finish line kick that no one could ever beat or duplicate!

*Got the extra REMIX MEDAL for completing both the 5k and Half Marathon.

58.  Saturday-- 11/5/16-- Walt Disney World Wine and Dine Inaugural 10k-- Orlando, Florida--

* 4th overall-- 1st Master Award-- 36:49

*I electrified The Disneyworld Wine and Dine Races with great performances over this weekend !!

* The humidity in Florida was tough to contend with.

Represented Colorado with pride taking 4th overall in the 10k and dominated the Masters category.  80% humidity kicked off the race at 5:30 am on a mostly flat road course finishing with a loop in epcot.  I hung in 3rd place to about the 4 mile mark and then dropped to 4th in the last 2 miles.   Sported my neon yellow splash Brooks singlet.

59.  11/6/16-- Sunday-- Walt Disney World Wine and Dine Half Marathon-- Orlando, Florida--

* 4th male overall out of 12,000 racers-- 7th overall-- 1st Master overall award-- 1st Doubler overall for the 2 course challenge-- 1:23:15 in 100% humidity.

*  I gave a great showing in the half Marathon in my Runners Roost Colorado outfit kicking everyones asses except for 6 people with a dramatic finish which changed the Master's outcome of the race.

*The race kicked off in 100% tough humidity at 5:30 am- mostly flat road course going through animal Kingdom, long stretches of Disney World roads, and an electrifying finish back in Epcot.   I ran with 1500 meter Bronze Olympic medalist from Rio this year-- Jenny Simpson-- and took her on until about the 10k mark as she opened up the gap on me in the 2nd half of the race but stayed within a few minutes of her.     My Master's Championship win was decided in the last 20 meters of the race as I outkicked 42 year old C. Smith from .98 to .39 of a second as we both clocked in 1:23:15 chip time !!   And about 2 minutes off of 2nd and 3rd place.  A female Brazilian took the womens win, with Jenny Simpson taking 2nd, and the 3rd place female caught me and the 8th place male in the last 400 of the race as I surged with her, it pulled me in to my climactic outkick to take the master's championship for Disney Wine and Dine half marathon.
