This was my favorite photo from Bolder Boulder. About 50,000 citizen runners and wheelchair athletes had finished the race or were well on their way to Folsom Field. As I waited for the elite women's race to start, along came this gentleman pushing his walker. Bolder Boulder's entry list has him identified as Richard Bribiesca of Golden. He hobbled on legs that had given up long ago, but it was humbling to see his determination. Those near me felt the same way. We all applauded as he shuffled past us. I watched some of the greatest runners in the world that day, but this crippled man touched my heart. He reminded me that the human spirit needs a challenge. It needs to run.
