About

Tim Bergsten created this Ning Network.

This triathlon was done with my cousin Holly. Holly is is in black. I had seen the Iron Girl advertised on ESPN in 2009 and thought to myself, if all of those women can do it I can too! I have 1 year to do it. I just needed someone else to do the tri with. I asked all of my cousins, I thought for sure a different one would do it with me because she was a excellent swimmer since she was on the swim team in school. But, my cousin Holly pulled through for me. Holly has MS and wasn't sure how the training would effect her but she was up for anything. So, Holly trained in Michigan on her Mountain Bike and I trained in Colorado on my Mountain Bike. I had never really "known" how to swim. I had never swam with my face in the water. I had to watch people in the pool to try and figure it out, and picked up all of the bad habits. So we both ended up in Atlanta with the hopes that we would both complete the tri under 2 hours. I completed mine in 1:58:56 and she completed hers in 2:02 something. She had me worried because I had caught up to her on the run and she said that her arm started getting a bit too tingling because of her MS. But she did it and pulled through and we both cried afterward. We were both so happy!
