Laurel Rathbun, an eighth grader at Lewis-Palmer Junior High School, said her goal is to someday race professionally.
She has been a bicycle racer since she was 8.
"I like the sense of accomplishment I get when I race," she said. "I like pushing myself."
She is looking forward to the Junior National Championships in June in Bend, Ore. She'll compete in the 13-14 category and ride in the road race, criterium and time trial.
