Early August 2008, I broke my right 4th and 5th fingers (ring and pinky). At first I thought they were just dislocated so I grabbed them and yanked. When I saw that they stretched and could see bone, I knew I was in trouble. I grabbed my bike, and hiked out about 2 miles. My buddy John was also on the trail, but miles behind me, I met him at the car, and he drove me to the hospital close to home so my wife could come easily, as she had surgery the day before. I nearly passed out a few times on the way to the hospital while in John's car.
The x-rays do not do justice to how bad they actually were. The pinky skin was broken about 270 degrees around the finger, the ring finder about 180 degrees. The doctor did not want to pin the bones or stitch the skin as he was sure additional surgery was going to be necessary. Luckily for me, it was not. Now I can do the Vulcan greeting without trying...

Ouch! So what's the story behind this pic?
