The luck of the Irish shined on everyone in the 5K on St. Patrick's Day in downtown Colorado Springs on Saturday (March 13).
A beautiful, blue-sky day greeted a record field of 1,800-plus. And while the racing was great, the crazy green outfits, funny hats, wigs and some surprises in kilts carried the day.
The U.S. Army team duo of Robert Cheseret and John Mickowski hit the finish line first with an identical time of 15 minutes, 1 second. Cheseret was placed first in the final results. Matt Levassiur of Alamaso placed third (15:11).
In the women's race, Alisha Williams of Manitou Springs won for the second consecutive year with a time of 17:16.
Williams finished eighth in the 3,000 at the USA Track and Field Indoor National meet. She said it was good to run on familiar ground.
"It was a good feeling for me to race locally," she said.
