Got a question for the gang - so now that winter is really here - how does the cold and snowy weather affect your running? Do you stop all together, hit the treadmill, or go out no matter what?

I love to trail run, so it hasn't stopped me.  Actually I really enjoy it... I went up the Incline this morning (8+ inches of snow) and ran back down Barr Trail... what a blast!

Did you use yack tracks?

yeah...  although I have the Yak Trax Walkers, and not the Pro.  Had to stop and adjust a few times on the way up...   but coming down they worked well... although the snow was so deep it was more like skiing at times :-)

I bundle and I don't worry about it affecting my pace.  If I can get a good hour in I'm happy.

Keep on running - was on the Incline this morning - didn't even think twice about going out.  The snow slows me down but only to enjoy the winter wonderland even that much more.

awesome morning on the Incline.. have never climbed in that much snow..   yep, slower, but so much fun :-)

I run with a group that goes out year-round ... that helps with the motivation to get out the door on cold, cold mornings! It's so beautiful out. I do use the treadmill sometimes during the winter for shorter runs during the week. Long runs have to be outdoors no matter what the weather!

Thanks for the responses! Keep 'em coming! (I'll probably put on my yaktrax today and brave the cold. Beats having to drive to the gym!)

Winter never stops me from running trails.  It's the best time to train.  Fewer people on trails, and running through snow makes your legs stronger.  That and the fact that it doesn't get more beautiful than a mid winter, snowy run, makes outside the best side.

good point about the deep snow...  it was a workout!

Great points, all.

I layer up and head out and dont worry about pace.  I enjoy winter runs it is peaceful and you can't beat the scenery.  I Use the treadmill if I need specific pace or interval workouts or the wind is blowing like crazy.
