Event Description

The American Discovery Trail Marathon is set for Monday, Sept. 6 (Labor Day). The Marathon begins at 6:30 a.m. in Palmer Lake. The Half Marathon begins at America the Beautiful Park. Both races end at America the Beautiful Park.
Nearly 1,100 runners competed in the ADT Marathon or half marathon last year. About 125 of those participated in the four-person marathon relay. Runners can register for the races at Active.com.
The ADT races are ran on the fast and flat Santa Fe Trail. The marathon course is a Boston qualifier and mostly downhill, losing about 1,300 feet of elevation. In 2009, Justin Ricks’ winning time of 2 hours, 32 minutes, 30 seconds, was the fastest marathon in the world on that weekend.
Marathon relay teams start at 6:45 a.m. in Palmer Lake. Relay team members will run legs of 6.75, 8.5, 6.75, and 4.2 miles.
The Marathon and Half Marathon have been designated as RRCA State Championship Races for 2010. There will also be cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 for the top three male and female finishers in the marathon.
