The Pikes Peak Road Runners kicked off the 35th edition of the Winter Series on Saturday. The Winter Series includes short- and long-course races. Runners covered courses of 3.3 miles and 7 miles at Cheyenne Mountain State Park. James Burns, who won the shorts series last year, showed that he is again the runner to beat. Burns dashed over a hilly, snow-coverd course in 18 minutes, 4 seconds, a new age-group (25-29) course record. In the women's race, Sheila Geere, 50, took the win with an age-group (50-54) record of 23:33.
