Andy Wacker, 24, of Boulder, led a field of about 650 runners up the first hills in the Summer Roundup Trail Run on Sunday (July 7, 2013). Wacker won with a time of 44 minutes, 33 seconds. Neil McDonagh (31, Colorado Springs) was second in 45:20, followed by Tommy Manning (37, Colorado Springs) in 46:17.
In the women's race, Ashlee Nelson, 32, of Colorado Springs, surprised herself - and many others - by charging to the win with a new course-record time of 51:27. Nelson won the Vail Hill Climb on Saturday and had her doubts about running fast prior to the Summer Roundup. But she broke away from second-place Nicole Mericle (25, Boulder) on the punishing climb up High Drive, then held on to win. Rochelle Persson (45, Colorado Springs) was third in 55:06.
