Gerald Romero, 40, of Colorado Springs, won the Woodland Park Mayor's Cup 10K on Saturday, charging through a hilly course in a new age-group record time of 36 minutes, 57 seconds. The old record for 40 to 49-year-old male runners was 37:11 set in 1993 by Al Grimme. Amanda Schumacher, 27, of Lake George, won the women's race in 52:07.
About 200 runners stepped to the starting line for the 23rd running of the event, which also included a 5K run. The race is a fundraiser for the Woodland Park Parks and Recreation department.
Joe Hopfe, 17, of Woodland Park, won the 5K with a time of 17:47. Savanah Ebhert, 16, of Woodland Park, clocked 22:05 to win the women's race.
