About 930 runners welcomed the New Year at the 35th running of the Rescue Run 5K/10K on Wednesday at Palmer Park. And 2014 said hello with a biting wind chill on a hilly course that forced everyone to dig deep.
Colorado Springs runners Carlos Ruibal, 27, and Sheila Geere, 50, captured the 5K titles. Ruibal won with a time of 18 minutes, 1 second, while Geere dashed away in the women's group with a 21:32, a new age-group (50-54) course record.
In the 10K, Sarah Guhl made the most of her Christmas vacation. A junior at Baylor University who is preparing for indoor track season, Guhl won with a time if 42:43. Justin Ricks captured the men's 10K with a time of 35:12.
