The alarm rang at 5 a.m. and the first thing Matt Carpenter thought was, 'I'm not going to do this." The thought of running another Pikes Peak Marathon was a little overwhelming. But he came around to the idea and about a minute before the race start in Manitou Springs, he stepped to the starting line. And then he tore the legs off of everybody else in the race.
