Katie Compton is known as one of the top cyclocross racers in the world. Now she can add "climber" to her resume. Compton won the women's race in the first Pikes Peak Cycling Hill Climb on Saturday, July 14. Thought the event is in its third year, this is the first time that organizers included a race. The 12.4 mile course started on the Pikes Peak Highway, just above Crystal Reservoir, and ended at the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak. Compton, of Colorado Springs, finished in 1 hour, 30 minutes, 46.1 seconds, pulling away from Annie Toth of Laramie, Wyo., over the final three miles.
