Jason Delaney and Touru Miyahara make the turn in 14,115 feet in the Pikes Peak Marathon

Jason Delaney and Touru Miyahara battled across the rocky face of Pikes Peak on Sunday in the Pikes Peak Marathon. They made the turn for home at the peak's 14,115-foot summit. But the race was not over. Miyahara, 30, of Japan, passed Delaney just above timberline, then had to out-sprint Alex Nichols of Colorado Springs in the last half mile to take the win in 3 hours, 43 minutes, 23 seconds. It was one of the closest races in race history, as Nichols, 28, of Colorado Springs, crossed the finish line 23 seconds behind the leader (3:43:46.) Delaney held on for third place (3:53:45).
