The Triple Crown of Running organizers realized that the Garden of the Gods 10 Mile Run isn't for everybody. It's a tough race, even for seasoned runners. So they added a 5K run to the mix, and on Sunday about 170 runners toed the line in the inaugural Garden of the Gosd 5K.
And the first 5K became a youth movement of sorts. Widefield High School graduate David Powers, 19, of Security, took the win, covering the rolling course (3.1 miles) in 18 minutes, 54 seconds.
In the women's race, 14-year-old Bailey Blackhurst of Colorado Springs won with a time of 21 minutes, 18 seconds.
