So Happy to Be Back on the Barr Trail

Last year I hiked several times on the Barr Trail, whether it was hiking back down from the infamous incline or actually hiking to the summit of Pike's Peak.  This year the Barr Trail has a much different meaning to me as I will be running in the Ascent.  Well, I'm not sure I will be running...it might be more of a power hike most of the time. ;)

However, between now and race day on August 16th, I'll be spending a lot of time on this trail.

But I don't mind.  At all.

It's a beautiful place to spend hours at a time, breathing in the fresh mountain air, taking in the incredible views, and enjoying all that nature has to offer us.

Today it was overcast.  But it was still stunning to take in the evergreen trees with a fresh layer of white snow on them as well as the beautiful views overlooking the city.

Plus, I enjoyed some great company with great friends.

Today was an easy hike day, but I know I will need to get some more intense training on the Barr Trail soon.

But, for today, I focused on enjoying the sights, smells, and the camaraderie.

Have you been on the Barr Trail lately?

Here in about 3 1/2 months, a lot of folks will be attempting to pass the true "Barr Exam" :-)

Barr Trail is a beautiful piece of work. Could Fred Barr have imagined what he was building 100 years ago? I like to think he was a visionary who understood that the path he kicked into the side of Pikes Peak would be trod by generations of outdoor lovers.
