For training, I'd drive to the top of Pikes Peak, run down to A Frame (three miles), and then blast back to the top. The uphill portion included plenty of fast walking. The better runners go down three and up, then down two miles and up, then one and up. I never did accomplish that. This photo was taken just above A Frame. My fastest pace on these training runs was a slow jog. Uphill at 12,000-feet plus has a way of wearing a person out.
