XTERRA Marathon and Half Marathon and 5K

Marshall Thompson crawled out of bed in Crested Butte at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and drove about 200 miles to run in the XTERRA Marathon at cold and wet Cheyenne Mountain State Park on Saturday.
"I love this place," he said. "If I lived closer I think I'd run here every day."
Marshall jumped to an early lead and wasn't challenged, winning in 3 hours, 5 minutes, 12 seconds. Lars Kjerengtroen finished second, about 19 minutes off the winning pace.
In the women's race, Shannon Meredith of Colorado Springs won in 3:56:53. Marny Scalard finished second in 4:31:55, followed by Alicia Souvignier in 5:11:45.
In the half marathon, Chad Ackison was credited with the win in the half marathon. Ackison, who has lived in Colorado Springs for only two months, finished in 1:28:38. Dan Vega hit the finish in 1:35:04, followed by Eric Hislop in 1:37:21.
XTERRA triathlete Kim Baugh won the women's half in 1:47:54. With Hillary Allen (1:49:43) and Melissa Bay (1:52:32) in second and third.
And in the 5K, 17-year-old Boise, Idaho, resident Alden Glass held off Rick Shoulberg to take the win in 22:17.22. Shoulberg, a 51-year-old rancher who lives near Guffey, finished six seconds back in 22:33.49. Todd Traen was third in 23:40.58.
Louise Kriel of Colorado Springs own the women's 5K (she placed fifth overall) in 25:10:56. Diana Hassel was second in 27:43:77, followed by Janelle Moncia (28:49:93) in third.
