A hundred photos from the Women's Distance Festival, May 17, 2014, in Colorado Springs. The race is a fund raiser for Girls on the Run. Though the day is dedicated to the ladies, men can participate as well. Todd Murray hopped off of his mountain bike long enough to capture the overall title with a time of 19 minutes, 39 seconds. Murray is better known for his long-distance mountain biking habit. He is one of only three riders to complete all 20 of the Leadville 100 races. He is slated to race at Leadville again this year.
Connilee Walter won the women's race with a time of 20:31. A mother of five, Walter was third overall.
The real winners were the kids who spent much of the spring training for a 5K in the Girls on the Run programs at their schools.
According to the Girls on the Run website, the program "inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running."
