Turning a wrench for Kids on Bikes

There will be plenty of smiles at the Freedom from Poverty Kids on Bikes Rodeo thanks to about 30 community volunteers who twisted a wrench Wednesday at "The Garage Mahal" behind A Room With a View Bed and Breakfast.
When the event ended, there were about 35 shiny new bikes ready to give to under-served kids who have been selected by social service agencies.
The bike rodeo will be part of the Freedom From Poverty Ride and Celebration at America the Beautiful Park, a fund-raising event for the Marian House.
The Rev. Michael O’Donnell of Catholic Charities, which manages the Marian House, jumped into an assembly line and kept the conversation light with his jokes and stories. But he also realized the importance of the work
“Every kid should have a bike,” he said.
The event included Bristol Beer and Borriello Brothers pizza.
Colorado Springs Metro Rides kicked in to buy the bikes. Giant sold 'em at cost.
The Bike Rodeo will also include:
• Safety courses & information
• Free bike helmet fitting and give-a-way
• Safety House
• Bike decoration station
• Bike parade - 3:15 pm
• Bike presentation to children nominated by social
service agencies
• Family Fun Ride begins at 2 p.m.
