Luke Arbuckle, 18, of Elkton, Maryland, posted a time of 16:03 to win the Rocky Mountain State Games 5K Sunday at Memorial Park. Arbuckle, who will soon begin his college cross country season, came to Colorado Springs for high-altitude training.
In the women's race, Heather Bates, a 15-year-old sophomore at Pine Creek High School, captured the victory with a personal best time of 18:07.
Other top placers in the women's field included second-place Hannah Everson (16 years old, 19:37), followed by Diana Trujillo (15, 21:28), Brianna Suppes (20, 22:02), and McKenna Hurley (15, 22:13). All of the top five women are Colorado Springs-area runners.
In the men's race, Andrew Hugill, 19, of Colorado Springs, finished second in 16:30, followed by William Edwards (18, 16:34, Colorado Springs), Bryce Gregoire (16, 16:44, Peyton), and Gerald Romero (38, 16:59, Colorado Springs.)
