The Boulder Running Company runners had a big day at the inaugural Pikes Peak High-Altitude Mile. BRC's Scott Dahlberg, who grew up in Peyton and is now an assistant cross country coach at Colorado State University, covered the distance in 4 minutes, 48 seconds on the summit of 14,115-foot Pikes Peak.
Kenyan born Sammy Kiplagat was second in 4:49.71, while his countryman Leonard Korir finished third in 4:51.93. Dey Dey, winner of the Bristol Mile, was fourth, followed by Neil McDonagh of Manitou and Alex Nichols of Colorado Springs.
In the women's race, Nicole Mericle led a Boulder Running Company/Adidas team sweep (there were four women in the race). Miracle won in 5:53.37. Shannon Payne of Colorado Springs was second in 5:58.32, followed by Rochelle Kanuho of Flagstaff, Ariz., 6:09.98, and Adrian Chouinard, Colorado Springs, 6:13.37.
