Anthony Meluso had the strongest legs in Saturday's Panormic 2-mile run at Bear Creek Park.
Meluso, 18, of Colorado Springs, set a course and age-group (10-19) record of 13:57.
Apparently, it was a good day to be young. Twelve-year-old Shannon Heart won the women's two-miler in 17:04.
The Panoramic 2- and 4-Mile Runs serve as a fundraiser for the Colorado Springs for the Deaf and Blind School. There were 188 finishers who battled up and over the hills in Bear Creek Park.
Randy Horner of Colonial Heights, Va., won the 4-mile run with a time of 23 minutes, 29 seconds. Emily Potter of Southern Pines, N.C., captured the top spot in the women's race with an 30-39 age-group-record time of 25:28.
The race is the second of five in the Pikes Peak Road Runners' Summer Series.
Several age-group records fell in addition to those set by Meluso and Potter.
In the 4-mile race, 0-9 boys group, Maxx Seminaro, 9, set a record with a time of 31:45.
In the 70-98 men's group, Jeff Smith's 39:06 is the fastest.
In the 2-mile race, Ian Rainsberger ran a 20:39 to set a new standard in the boys' 0-9 group.
John Hart now has the fastest time (17:05) among the men 40-49.
George Greco (60-69 men) is in the books with a 15:35.
Among the women 2-milers, 9-year-old Grace Abernathy set a new mark in the girls' 0-9 pack with a 17:51. And Lisa Stamos' 18:14 is now the mark to beat among women runners 20-29.
