The new Pikes Peak Road Ascent began at the Pikes Peak Highway toll gate and finished at Glen Cove, near treeline - 11,425 feet - on the northern flanks of Pikes Peak.
The men's race came down to the final 800 meters, as Jason Delaney held off a late charge by Tommy Manning to win in 1 hour, 21 minutes, 43.5 seconds. Manning rolled in two ticks behind at 1:21:47. Simon Gutierrez, 45, of Colorado Springs, finished third in 1:26:39.3.
In the women's race, Kim Dobson of Aurora, won on Pikes Peak for the second time in eight days. She clocked 1:34:30.7 on the Road Ascent to follow her win in the Pikes Peak Ascent. Rachael Cueller, 29, of Albuquerque, finished second in 1:40:02, followed by Lisa Goldsmith, 46, of Nederland, in 1:46:33.8.
And we're proud to say that we captured the first photos of a Big Foot on Pikes Peak. He was actually quite friendly ... maybe a little too friendly as our video will show. Stay tuned.
