Eleven miles wasn't enough for Tera Moody, the 30 year old Boulder Running Company/adidas runner. No, she needed 10 more, so she jumped into the Grand Prix of Running Top Ten Race Saturday in Colorado Springs and won with a time of 56 minutes, 52 seconds.
"That felt really good," she said. "I had already ran 11 miles before the start of the race, so I'm really happy."
It was Moody's second consecutive win on the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail. She won the Classic 10K two weeks ago. Now, she goes for bigger game. Moody will run the marathon at the World Track and Field Championships, Aug. 27 in Daegu, Korea.
Grand Prix of Running long series leader Christie Foster finished second in 1:01:59, while 2010 long-series champ Stephanie Meredith placed third in 1:07:18.
In the men's race, Alex Nichols, 26, of Colorado Springs, won with a time of 54:30.81. James Burns, 23, Colorado Springs, was second in 55:36.15, followed by Jarret Leblanc, 20, Hathaway, La., in 55:45.59.
The Top 10, which was contested for just the second year, was the fifth of six Grand Prix of Running Series. The final series event, the Great Pumpkin 5K and 10K, is slated for Oct. 1 at Venetucci Farm.
