Colorado Springs runners Awet Beraki and Brittany Warly kicked off the Pikes Peak Road Runners' Winter Series in fast fashion on Saturday, setting new men's and women's overall records in the 3.3-mile short-course race on the trails in Cheyenne Mountain State Park.
Beraki, 20, flew over a hilly course in 17 minutes, 36 seconds, about five seconds faster than James Burns’ 17:41 clocked in 2013.
Warly, 24, hit the finish in 20:53, beating the old record of 21:16 set in 2013 by then 14-year-old Katie Rainsberger.
