The Ascent Cycling Series kicked off another season on Saturday at Palmer Park. Race director Andy Bohlmann said about 130 racers competed in 25 race divisions. A hot wind made for some tough riding, but the racers loved the course laid out by Matt Benassi, venue director for the series. The course obstacle Benassi didn't plan on was a mama bear and two cubs that wandered into the area and held up the Pro/Cat 1 race for a few minutes before disappearing into the woods.
