MINE TO MINE 9K-- "RACING EQUIPMENT CATASTROPHE" !!!! OK- SO I AM ALL READY TO KICK ASS IN THIS RACE THIS YEAR-- I had some gold nuggets waiting for me at the awards--- I was hungry for my gold nuggets this year !!
In the first quarter of the race, I was literally just making a surge on the downhill and my right racing shoe (special edition nike mayfly) totally rips on the right side from toe to heel and my foot literally comes out of it and I am saying holy shit, unbeleivable !!!!!!! I stop and think of my options--keep running, which was impossible, just call it quits, or go find some shoes------ made a split decision to run back to the start to the parking lot and go to my car, searched frantically through my car, found a new pair of racing shoes I had just gotten from Runners Roost, threw them on and then started the race again. Running like crazy, I caught everybody except 8 --- I just had too much time lost and too much for me to try and overcome !!! But, i still managed to win the 40-44 and take home my age group mine ore award and a great memory from 2013 Mine to Mine race. My time= 35:05. Hey, even my bro Rick Shoulberg finished just ahead of me in 8th. If this was just a little longer - I could have pulled off 3rd overall for sure. Hell, I ran an awesome race !!!! too freakin bad I had at least an 8-10 minute handicapp on me. Oh well, shit happens !!!!!! Hey- everybody loved and admired me for my incident-- I was the hit of the show and they loved an awesome comeback!!!!!
