By Al Brody, PikesPeakSports.us member Over the past few years in Colorado Springs, Bike to Work Day has grown into Bike Month+.
There are more events and more citizens participating than ever before.
One thing that has been consistent is Mayor Rivera's dedication to
hopping on a bike and riding to the Bike to Work Breakfast. On
Wednesday June 9th, at (OH! dark thirty) 6:00 a.m., the Mayor's peleton
will depart the Alpine Village parking lot at UCCS and ride on newly
paved Tier 1 trail, through the Lion's Gate Tunnel, around our city's
first bike round-about and across the bike/ped bridge into America the
Beautiful Park ending at the Pioneers Museum for the FREE breakfast. If
you join us, you will experience first hand, the hundreds of thousands
of dollars worth of new, non-motorized, mobility infrastructure which
you have helped build in our community. The ride will showcase how this
infrastructure makes bicycling a safe, convenient, and viable
transportation option.
If you need assistance acquiring a suitable human powered vehicle, please let me know and I will help get you outfitted with a bike,
tandem, or high end adult trike.
One of the things that makes Colorado Springs great is that we are consistently at the high end of fittest cities by any measure. This
ride is an easy (the ride is mostly downhill, off street, and has a CSPD
escort) opportunity to be an integral and visible part of the fittest
city rather than just a spectator.
