You never know who'll stop by for the Assault on the Peak bike ride.
Event organizers have announced that 13-time women's World Champion Jeannie Longo of France has registered and will take the challenge on Sunday, when hundreds of cyclist pedal from Manitou Springs to the peak's 14,115-foot summit and back.
There is still time to register for the big event. Cyclists can sign up on Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. at
ProCycling, 600 S. 21st Street (the souhwest corner of 21st and Hwy 24).
After the ride, plan to swing by the 4th Annual Peak Region Cyclist Bicycle Festival, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.at Memorial Park in Manitou Springs. Festival admission is free. Everyone is invited to enjoy a post-ride meal of pasta, bread sticks and salad for $8.
There will be beer.

The inaugural Pikes Peak Road Ascent running race will also take place, with runners returning to the park to celebrate.
Online registration for the Pikes Peak Road Ascent ends at 6 p.m. Saturday
