14-year-old Monument road racer goes silver-bronze-silver at Junior National Championships

Laurel Rathbun made a strong statement at the U.S. Junior National Road Championships in Bend, Ore.
She capped a silver medal in the road race and bronze in the criterium with another silver on Thursday in the time trial.
Rathbun, 14, of Monument, told PikesPeakSports.us in April that she is aiming for a pro career in cycling. That seems to be on track as she was clearly the second-best cyclist in the women's 13-14 field.
Kristin Williams of Lonetree, Colo., was the star of the show, winning all three races. Williams blitzed the 12K time trial in 19 minutes, 40.8 seconds. Rathbun was 25 seconds behind.
Colorado Springs' Andrew Hemesath, who rides for the Fron Rangers team, placed 19th in a field of 103 in the men's 17-18 time trial. Chandler Knop of Monument was 32nd. Rhys Rathbun of Monument was 71st.
