Old Town Bike Shop's John Crandall wins 2011 Earth Month Greenie Award for Lifetime Achievement

From Catamount Institute

Wheels are always turning at Old Town Bike Shop - whether it's the loyal customers that roll in to experience the ultimate customer service in cycling or in the head of the quiet but fearless leader that built a strong foundation for this local business back in 1976.  Regardless, when the wheels are turning in John Crandall's bike shop, something good always comes out of it.

That is exactly why VEDA Salon & Spa chose John Crandall to be the recipient of their 2011 Earth Month Greenie Award for Lifetime Achievement. Catamount Institute will proudly join VEDA for the award presentation that will take place during VEDA's annual Eco-Fashion Show and Greenie Award this Saturday, April 30 at 7pm at the Plaza of the Rockies, 111 S. Tejon Street.

Someone once said "It is far more impressive when others discover your good qualities without your help. "  When it comes to John Crandall, one doesn't have to look far at all.  When asked why he was chosen as the 2011 recipient, the selection committee spoke of Crandall's ability to "connect the right people together to make good things happen." And they didn't stop there.

"He engages the community and inspires us to learn more."
"There is no one more deserving"
"John set the stage for retrofitting a business"
"John is a founding member of the Pikes Peak Sustainable Business Network"
"Hi actions demonstrate his commitment to living simply and sustainably, his philosophy and beliefs"
"Stayed his course over time... "
"Been a supporter of all sustainability actions in the region - with his wisdom, time and money."
"A gentle soul with a kind presence"
"Humble & warm"
"He has what VEDA describes as A Servant's Heart
Ultimately, the consensus among the VEDA Team was to award Crandall because he's "a person who can achieve everything by being simple and humble."
The folks at Catamount Institute couldn't agree more.

The Greenie Awards will also recognize area organizations, schools, businesses, communities and individuals who have proven commitment to environmental education and sustainable communities.

This event is the final in VEDA's Earth Month 2011 campaign where their talented staff and dedicated clients gave back to the Pikes Peak region by supporting environmental education and promoting sustainable communities through a series of events this April. Catamount Institute was chosen as the beneficiary of the Earth Month 2011 campaign proceeds.
