Middle and High School distance runners: looking for a fun way to shake up your training this summer in preparation for your cross country season? Then mark your calendars. For the second year in a row, the 2012 Colorado Springs City-Wide Cross Country Camp will once again get off the ground July 23rd-27th.
The camp is open to distance runners of all abilities ages 10-18 years old, and is FREE of charge to all attendees. The camp is to be sponsored by local running stores Boulder Running Company, Colorado Running Company, and Runners Roost in addition to Brooks and Diem Sportsgear.
In its inaugural year 2011, the camp hosted over 50 kids from 10 different schools throughout Colorado Springs.
"Our number one goal was to host a quality experience for kids from the area that everyone could be a part of at no cost," explained camp director Mark Misch.
Meeting each evening from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in North Monument Valley Park, each session will feature a workout as well as trivia, running gear giveaways, guest speakers, instruction in form, drills, core work, nutrition, and injury prevention.
"The camp is not affiliated with a specific school or organization," said Misch. "It's just a culmination of people from the running community who want to pass on their passion for the sport to kids coming up through the ranks and it's our hope that these kids will get as much out of the sport as many of us have over the years."
