The Leadville Trail 100 Ultra marathon began in 1983 as a running race to drive tourism in Leadville, and the MTB mountain bike race was added in 1994. The mountain bike race has grown in popularity among the world’s most elite cyclists with 1,400 competitors. The race takes place over a 100-mile course with cyclists climbing and descending 14,000 feet through extreme climate changes ranging from heat to hail and from rain to snow.
