Plan to participate in the inaugural Pikes Peak Road Ascent, an 11.6-mile running race scheduled for Aug. 28.
The event that starts at the Pikes Peak Toll Gate (7,750’) and climbs up to Glen Cove (11,425’) at an average grade of 5%-8%.
The race is a fully supported, competitive, timed event giving runners the chance to experience a section of the Pikes Peak Highway which is closed to automobiles the day of the event, with the exception of official vehicles for the event and normal highway staff vehicles.
The race will be held concurrently with the 2nd Annual Assault on the Peak, a bike ride from Manitou Springs to the Summit of Pikes Peak. Since Pikes Peak — America’s Mountain — is closed to bicycles and runners/walkers on every other day of the year, this event is truly special for any cyclist or runner wanting to test their mettle as well as their lung capacity!
Runners will be shuttled back to the starting line. The post event Party will begin at noon and will continue until 4:00 p.m. in Manitou Springs’ Memorial Park. The awards ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. as part of the celebration.
There is a cap of 600, so register soon!
